Week #2 reflection

Today's date: May 22th

Entry time: 10:00 am

All hours: 110H 20M

This week was a whirlwind of ups, downs, and everything in between. There was a lot to get done last week before the trip, but this week was the trip and there was no more to get done. In total, we spent five days in the woods hiking and camping along the Appalachian trail. Even though this was a day shorter than we had anticipated, the trip was still a success. We spent lots of time in the wilderness working on our personal growth and overall development.

Day 1
Today we spent the whole day packing our bags with all of our personal and group gear. The majority of my bag is taken up by all of the kitchen supplies and the tent. Even though I packed so much there still feels like more that I might need.

Day 2
Due to us having to start later in the day, our first day was a very short hike; only three miles from the road to the shelter. It turned out that we had gotten dropped off at the site we should have hiked to the next day and only released when we got to the shelter and it was not the right one. We made it work though and planned to stay on the same route.

Day 3
When we woke up, there was snow falling and it was much chillier than any of us had expected. We decided to play it safe and hiked to the Moosilauke Ravine lodge where we could go if it became too cold to stay outside. In the end we got a room to stay in when they let us check the weather forecast and it was around zero.

Day 4
The day’s hike took us to the Beaver brook shelter on the north side of Mt Jim. It was a decently warm day and we did not see any snow till we got to the north facing descent of this peak. Luckily the snow we were hiking on was packed down because it seemed tobe around four feet high.

Day 5
After descending the treacherous back of Mt Jim, we started the climbing portion of our trek. Climbing Mt Wolf was extremely difficult and took a lot of mental strength to summit; it took a really long time to accomplish this and get back to the base of the mountain. Mentally, this was where I checked out and did not feel I could walk a step further, but I made it to the shelter.
